Starting in January of 2022, we will be exploring and uplifting new plays written primarily by women playwrights through our Read & Rant program! Each month, we will feature one to two scripts that have never been professionally produced and invite the playwright to join our conversation. Guided by a dramaturg, we invite you to share your constructive comments, thoughts, and affirmations in order to aid in the development process of the piece. Curious to learn more about new play development and the role of a dramaturg? Join us each month to hear from a professional dramaturg about their past experiences and favorite new play development practices.
Feb 21 – How to Talk to Nuns by Juniper McKelvie
A nun and an atheist walk into a cafe and… begin a conversation, a friendship, and… maybe more? This wasn’t what devout Ines expected, or maybe it was, when a weekly errand brought her out of the convent for a short time each week. After Ines meets Alice, the two women begin a series of conversations about life, love, and everything in between. As Ines unveils new layers of her identity and questions which version of herself is the most authentic, devout atheist Alice avoids true exploration of her own stuckness and wonders: can you really call it dating if you hardly touch and only see each other once a week?
After you register for a session, you will receive information on how to access or where to purchase our featured script(s). Please know that if a script involves a purchase and that creates a hardship for you, please reach out and we will take care of it for you.
