artBURSTS with Huerta Urbana’s Farmers Market 2024

Join Athena Project for a free and public event on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 2501 E 48th Ave from 2PM to 5PM for an afternoon of music, dance, poetry, and visual art!

In collaboration with Huerta Urbana’s Farmers Market taking place at Focus Points Family Resource Center, we’re hosting artBURSTS featuring live musical and dance performances for audiences to experience the joy a burst of art brings. Also keep your eyes out for the digital billboard truck traversing the neighborhood streets that same afternoon featuring artwork by Haley Knowles.

This is the latest series of events highlighting women artists in our Curating Art for Impact program, which produces impactful and unique art with community partners. We uplift women, transgender, and nonbinary artists and PAY THEM for their work, while Huerta Urbana Farmers Market is an agricultural social enterprise that provides economic opportunities for families and ensures access to fresh and healthy food in the Globeville Elyria-Swansea neighborhoods!  It’s a fantastic opportunity to uplift each other!

Huerta Urbana’s Farmers Market Schedule:
All events take place at Focus Points Family Resource Center (2501 East 48th Ave, Denver, Colorado 80216) in the front parking lot. Times and artists are subject to change.

Program:
1 PM – 5 PM – Artwork by Haley Knowles traveling throughout district (on the digital truck traveling throughout the district)

2 PM – 5 PM – DJ CYN (Music)

Esta es la última serie de eventos que destacan a mujeres artistas en nuestro programa Curating Art for Impact, que produce arte impactante y único con socios de la comunidad. Apoyamos a las mujeres , transexuales y artistas no binarios y LES PAGAMOS por su trabajo, además, Huerta Urbana Farmers Market es una empresa agrícola social que ofrece oportunidades económicas a las familias y garantiza el acceso a alimentos frescos y saludables en la vecindad de Globeville Elyria-Swansea; ¡Es una buena oportunidad para apoyarnos mutuamente!

Haley Knowles

Haley Knowles is an emerging artist from the foothills of Colorado. She uses art as an instrument to explore the relationships we develop with our surroundings – bringing to light the small things in life that influence our behavior. Creating public art is one of Haley’s ongoing goals because it is accessible to everyone. Instead of being barred behind a paywall or gallery, it’s part of our community.

DJ CYN

Cynthia Mardones, known by her stage name, DJ Cyn has been curating music internationally for over 14 years. DJ Cyn began her career in Breckenridge, Colorado DJing for extreme sporting events, such as X-Games, Dew Tour, and Burton Open. Her career has been a culmination of artist showcases, corporate events, weddings, clubs, and has opened for other artists like Usher, Rob Base, Macy Grey, Tyga, Doja Cat, Miguel, and more.

Renowned for her ability to read the energy of a crowd, Cyn is truly unbound by genre or era. Curating music at culturally driven events, she truly has transformed the way we experience music. She prides herself on being a “one-stop-shop”. Not only does she provide professional DJ services, but she also offers full sound services, lights, staging, and can arrange booking for other DJ’s and bands.

Baile Caliente

Ballet Folklorico Baile Caliente is a local Denver folkloric dance group under direction of Tamara Vigil. They have been sharing the art of Mexican ballet folklorico with audiences since 2010. Baile Caliente takes joined together for the love of dance, and community. Their goal is to share culture in and bring the energy of to every stage, both large and small.

They have performed across Colorado to honor cultural events and holidays through community events like Denver Parade of Lights, Tigres del Norte Denver/Albuquerque Tour, as well as in collaboration for the National Western Stock show and Levitt Pavilion.

Bailey Elora

Bailey Elora is an accomplished singer-songwriter and female-fronted alternative rock band with powerhouse vocals and Latin inspired guitar. For over 8 years, Bailey and her band have performed at many reputable venues in and around the Denver area including festivals such as Westword Music Showcase, Highlands Street Fair, and The Underground Music Showcase.

Lynda Gernhard illum8

Lynda is a proud disabled multi talented queer artist, educator, and community organizer. Lynda is a writer /poet , dancer, yogi, vegan cook and lover of culture and the arts. Originally from the East coast, Lynda has been in Denver CO for nearly 11 years and considers the mile high city to be home.

Their mission is to Educate , Encourage , Equip , Empower, Embody , Excellence and Accessibility through art, science , history and other interdisciplinary mediums of practice. Lynda’s art centers anti capitalism, social – restorative justice , love, lust, heartbreak and the human experience. Lynda believes life is art, life is political , life is complex and hopes we all find the duality of the collateral beauty.

Saffron

A name derived from their relatively rare natural hair colors (red and yellow), Saffron is a Colorado-based duo comprised of songstresses/ multi-instrumentalists Sonya Walker and Sofia Nehama. Both draw inspiration from an eclectic set of influences, possibly due to their eccentric upbringings.

Jasmine Nicole Maldonado Dillavou

Jasmine Nicole Maldonado Dillavou is a Boricua poet, performer and storyteller. Dillavou recieved her B.A from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and has been teaching and creating art across the Front Range ever since. Her passions lie in sharing the important and complex narratives surrounding latinidad and femininity.

Kebrina Josefina De Jesús (Samba Colorado)

Samba Colorado is a dance and drum ensemble dedicated to preserving Afro-Brazilian cultural arts. We are a diverse community, built with the belief that the arts have the power to heal, by connecting us to our ancestors and releasing us from past trauma.
