Calling all women and girls in comedy!

Athena Project, together with Colorado comedian Janae Burris, is launching a new comedy community group just for you.

We’re creating a space where women, girls, and underrepresented genders can connect, share experiences, and feel truly supported. Join us for our very first virtual meet & greet on September 28th (2-3:30pm) via Zoom to ask questions, set intentions, and help shape this exciting new community.

Let’s build something that amplifies, empowers, and celebrates our voices in comedy—together.

Genesis - Ariana "Nani" Gonzales

Artist’s Statement – Genesis tells the story of the human experience through her adornments. All references are historical, and her story is one of many. The corsets exhibited inside the museum inspired my vision for her exposed ribcage overflowing with life. Her poppies are the memories of those who came before her. Her skirt is beaded with spirals sharing a journey inward while the butterflies symbolize her power to overcome adversity. The moon eclipsing the sun within the crown represents the divine union of feminine and masculine energies, a sign of wholeness and self-actualization. Finally, the tree of life offers us perspective on the miracles of existence.

Janae Burris

Janae Burris is a comedian, actor and event host as well as former cohost of The Denver Post’s Cannabist Show. She is a South Los Angeles native and a California Institute of the Arts alumna. Janae’s opened for Michael Che, Roy Wood Jr., Beth Stelling and Josh Blue to name a few. She has performed at Just For Laughs Montreal, Portland’s Bridgetown Comedy Festival, High Plains Comedy Festival and has headlined at Aspen Laugh Fest. She is a Comedy Works “Pro”, the first black woman promoted to the highly respected list, and was crowned Comedy Works New Faces Champ in 2016. Janae was chosen to receive a grant through Spotify’s Sound Up Podcast Bootcamp and is currently developing her podcast Dead Daddy Issues. Janae was also a proud teaching artist for Athena Project where she teaches stand-up comedy to teenage girls.
