Read & Rant is Athena Project’s book club exploring plays written primarily by women. We read one or two scripts or ancillary materials during the month and meet every third Monday online via Zoom, to discuss the works. Learn what makes a good script, discuss how it affects us, and explore the ways it links to the larger world. Converse with invited guests who bring an in-depth knowledge base. This monthly free offering to the community aims to raise awareness of the under-representation of women’s stories on stage.
Happy New Year and here’s to trying something new this month! This month we want for YOU to bring your favorite script to share about. Why do you love it? Have you seen it produced somewhere? Our guest this month will be Lynde Rosario, freelance dramaturg and former Literary Manager at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA). Lynde will be teaching us about the various genres of theatre–Magical Realism, Comedy, Farce, and even some new genres such as Afrofuturism. This Read & Rant will be fun and educational at the same time. And we look forward to getting to know you, our readers, as well. It’s amazing what you can learn about someone based on the plays they like to read!
What play did you bring to talk about today?
What’s your favorite genre and why?
What genre do you want to know more about?
There are no materials in advance of this month’s Read & Rant. Please re-read your favorite script and bring it to share. You will gain access to the Zoom link by registering for the event here:
Please be sure to check your Eventbrite confirmation email for the Zoom link to join this month’s meeting as well as the links to this month’s material.
