In collaboration with:  Manus Supply, EquillibriumMask Crafters

We’re inviting you to join designers for online sewing circles where we can connect while helping our community. FASHION IN ACTION: MASKS is a project with Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design to make masks and get them to hospitals, long-term care facilities, grocery store workers and other vital service providers while creating community through connecting. According to the CDC, fabric masks are a crisis response option when other supplies have been exhausted.

We’re all in this together! We’re all worried and stressed with the speed of the drastic changes taking place in our lives. Staying positive, keeping busy and staying connected is a vital part of our mental and physical health.

We know that art heals. Art creates empathy. And at a time where kindness matters more than ever, this is a way to both be productive AND keep us connected.

We are coordinating virtual meetings hosted by designers or organizations, where we can create masks together. These online virtual meetings are available as tutorials but more importantly they are available to build community.

Once your masks are created, bundle them together in packs of 10 and drop them at RMCAD, information below. Athena Project will get them to organizations. ***DO NOT DROP OFF MASKS AT YOUR LOCAL HOSPITAL UNLESS WE ARE DIRECTED TO DO SO*** Of course, if you have contacts within our network who need the masks donate them there.

See below for a list of upcoming Zoom meetings.  Want to get started now?  We’ve provided a supply list a well as how to videos and links to the CDC.

We are working on the distribution pipeline to get them directly in the hands of the doctors and nurses who need them and will share more info on that as it becomes available. We know there are collection drives and folks already engaged with mask-making. Our hope is to coordinate this effort, so it has as little impact on the hospitals as possible while we support preparation for the next wave of needs. And create a bit of “fashion community” while we’re at it.

Please reach out to info@wordpress-761314-2949346.cloudwaysapps.com with the subject FASHION IN ACTION: MASKS should you know of other collection hubs, points of contact or for any questions.

* this information is coming directly from the CDC’s website who states that when a shortage of disposable masks occurs, cloth masks are the next best option.

*****Athena Project and Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design will not be liable if illness or other unforeseen negative consequences occur by wearing one of the masks created by individuals or groups associated with this project. Individuals who are making these masks ensure to the best of their ability that they are healthy and will drop off clean products for safe distribution to hospitals or related personnel.
