2022 Read and Rant Series

Starting in Tháng 1 of 2022, we will be exploring and uplifting new plays written primarily by women playwrights through our Read & Rant program! Each month, we will feature one to two scripts that have never been professionally produced and invite the playwright to join our conversation. Guided by a dramaturg, we invite you to share your constructive comments, thoughts, and affirmations in order to aid in the development process of the piece. Curious to learn more about new play development and the role of a dramaturg? Join us each month to hear from a professional dramaturg about their past experiences and favorite new play development practices.
Tháng 3 21 – Once In a Bleu Moon by Mallory Raven-Ellen Backstrom
Bleu Moon is an Afrofuturistic fashion designer savoring the fruits of newfound fame. There’s just one peculiar part of her life that she’s trying to keep discreet… She descends from a prestigious line of witches. When Bleu unexpectedly conceives her first child, she can’t help but resent the imperfect timing. A workaholic, she is determined to labor until she’s due. Though Bleu rebukes magic, when she learns she’ll have to endure a stillbirth, she makes a fateful choice. As her stars realign and a super-blue-blood-moon approaches, on the eve of her thirty-third birthday, she casts her spell. With the knot of nine she rewind’s time…. And everything is as it should be… Until it isn’t. Once in a Bleu Moon is a witchy fable about womb magick, loss, legacy and breaking generational curses.
