artBURSTS with Huerta Urbana’s Farmers Market 2023

Join Athena Project for a free and public event on Thứ sáu, Tháng 8 11, 2023 at 2501 E 48th Ave from 2PM to 6PM for an afternoon of music, dance, and visual art!

In collaboration with Huerta Urbana Farmers Market taking place at Focus Points Family Resource Center, we’re hosting artBURSTS featuring DJ CYN and live musical and dance performances for audiences to experience the joy a burst of art brings. Also keep your eyes out for the digital billboard truck traversing the neighborhood streets that same afternoon (between 12PM and 4PM) featuring women muralists whose work adorns the Women’s Bean Project building on W Alameda, and art from the Museo Sin Fronteras exhibit from Museo de Las Americas.

This is the latest series of events highlighting women artists in our Curating Art for Impact program, which produces impactful and unique art with community partners. We uplift women artists and PAY THEM for their work, while Huerta Urbana Farmers Market is a social enterprise bringing fresh food to the community!  It’s a fantastic opportunity to uplift each other!

Huerta Urbana’s Farmers Market Schedule: front porch unless noted otherwise. All events take place at Focus Points Family Resource Center (2501 East 48th Ave, Denver, Colorado 80216). Times and artists are subject to change.

También manténgase atento al camión de vallas publicitarias digitales que atraviesa las calles del vecindario esa misma tarde (entre las 12:00 p. m. y las 4:00 p. m.) con mujeres muralistas cuyo trabajo adorna el edificio Women’s Bean Project en W Alameda, y arte de la exhibición del Museo Sin Fronteras del Museo de Las Américas.

Esta es la última serie de eventos que destacan a mujeres artistas en nuestro programa Curating Art for Impact, que produce arte impactante y único con socios de la comunidad. Apoyamos a las mujeres artistas y les PAGAMOS por su trabajo, y Huerta Urbana Farmers Market es una empresa social que trae alimentos frescos a la comunidad; ¡Es una buena oportunidad para apoyarse mutuamente!

Diana Ly
Ballet Folklorico Baile Caliente

Ballet Folklorico Baile Caliente is a local folkloric dance group under the direction of Tamara Vigil. Baile Caliente has been sharing the art of Mexican folklorico with audiences since 2010. Their mission is to preserve the art of folkloric dance in their communities and bring energy and culture to every stage and performance.

DJ CYN

Cynthia Mardones, known by her stage name, DJ Cyn has been curating music internationally for over 14 years. DJ Cyn began her career in Breckenridge, Colorado DJing for extreme sporting events, such as X-Games, Dew Tour, and Burton Open. Her career has been a culmination of artist showcases, corporate events, weddings, clubs, and has opened for other artists like Usher, Rob Base, Macy Grey, Tyga, Doja Cat, Miguel, and more. Renowned for her ability to read the energy of a crowd, Cyn is truly unbound by genre or era. Curating music at culturally driven events, she truly has transformed the way we experience music. She prides herself on being a “one-stop-shop”. Not only does she provide professional DJ services, but she also offers full sound services, lights, staging, and can arrange booking for other DJ’s and bands.

Emelise Munoz
Emelise Munoz

Emelise is a 17 year old singer/songwriter musician from Denver whose passion for making music often has her listeners referring to her as an old soul. Her style is a folk-rock, Americana blend. Emelise has been playing live music in front of crowds since she was six years old. Just recently she was in the studio and recorded her first EP titled On My Way produced by Brad Corrigan from Dispatch. Emelise enjoys street performing which has led to her booking shows across the country at coffee shops, farmers markets, microbreweries, festivals, and music venues. She has presented in premiere events, including TedX Uncommon in Denver, Move the Dial in Toronto, LA’s Winston House, and the Denver Women’s Tháng 3. In 2017 Emelise placed first in The Stars of Tomorrow Competition at the world famous New York’s Apollo Theatre. She has been featured in Denver’s 5280 Magazine as “Country’s Next New Rising Star” and in 303 magazine as “The 13-year old Soon-to-be Star Taking Over Denver.” Emelise is recording her self-titled debut album which will be released on all major platforms soon!

Parasol Arts

Parasol Arts is Colorado’s only Argentine Tango dance company and has delighted audiences with innovative and artistically unique multi media tango shows since 2012. Directed by Lorita Travaglia, Parasol Arts is a professionally operated non-profit organization for dancers, musicians, vocalists and creative artists who have achieved recognition in their respective fields of study and seek to collaborate on unique and original theatrical productions. Parasol Arts promotes and advances music, dance and theatre through professional performances and educational outreach programs that transcend and heighten our cultural experience and take inspiration from the art of Argentine Tango.

Paloma Ress

Paloma Ress is a jazz vocalist in Denver who loves to play music that speaks to the soul. She will be joined by Andrew Rose on the bass and play tunes that are energetic and spirited!

Tenia Nelson

As a pianist, percussionist, composer and arranger, and educator, Tenia Nelson has 20 years (plus) teaching experience in ALL levels of education (Early Childhood through University). At the present time, Tenia teaches privately in her music studio and also teaches classes at Neighborhood Music at Stanley Marketplace.

Tenia received her Bachelors of Music Education Degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2004, and her Masters of Music Degree (Jazz Studies) from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2010. Tenia is a board member of The Gift of Jazz organization, a non-profit based in Denver, which actively supports jazz performance in the Rocky Mountain region, in particular, to ensure that jazz remains a creative force in Colorado. In addition to teaching, Tenia performs regularly at jazz venues in the Denver metro area, including Dazzle at Baur’s and Nocturne. Tenia is a freelance music artist and play all types of music! Tenia co-leads a well-known Denver-based jazz group, Spherio, which focuses on arranging and playing the music of Thelonious Sphere Monk (Tenia Nelson, keys; Brendan O’ Donoghue, bass; and Andreas Schmid, drums). Tenia also leads a group called Tenia Nelson Trio (Tenia Nelson, keys; Brendan O’ Donoghue, bass; Alex Tripp, drums). In addition, as a freelance music artist, Tenia plays all types of music. One example would be playing with Jon Romero and the Taco Cats(Latin Jazz/Funk/Rock). Most recently, Denver’s premiere jazz radio station KUVO (declared one of the best jazz radio stations in the world) featured Tenia’s music and Spherio! Denver, Colorado, is a city with long-standing, well-supported jazz traditions, from visits by jazz greats in the 30s and 40s in the historic Five Points area, to the current day. As such, this provides me with unique opportunities to perform with an array of awesome local and international musicians, which serves to further her growth as a jazz musician. Tenia currently lives in Denver, Colorado, with her family (my husband Tim, son, Thelonious, and dog Snowball).

Verena Fuentes

Meet Verena: a talented Mexican singer/songwriter based in Denver, CO, blending pop, R&B, and neo-soul with her Latin American roots. Her music explores vulnerability, authenticity, and human complexities, especially as a woman, POC, friend, daughter, and partner. Using her platform, Verena gives voice to her experiences and others like her, creating relatable and meaningful music. Don’t miss her unique sound and poignant storytelling.
