2023 Leer y Despotricar

El programa Read & Rant del Proyecto Athena pretende combinar el intercambio de obras teatrales con el público en general y los aspectos de desarrollo de nuevas obras de nuestro anterior ciclo Plays In Progress, fomentando al mismo tiempo la colaboración entre dramaturgos y dramaturgos. Piense en un club de lectura de obras de teatro. Aprenda en qué consiste un buen guión, discuta cómo nos afecta y explore sus vínculos con el mundo en general. Esta oferta mensual gratuita a la comunidad pretende concienciar sobre la escasa representación de las historias de mujeres en los escenarios.

Cada mes, leemos dos guiones nuevos e inéditos seleccionados a partir de una convocatoria nacional y solemos reunirnos cada tercer lunes en línea a través de Zoom para debatir las obras. Únase a nosotros para conversar con dramaturgos invitados que aportan un profundo conocimiento de las obras y de la escritura teatral en general. Guiados por un dramaturgo, también le invitamos a compartir sus comentarios constructivos, pensamientos y afirmaciones para ayudar en el proceso de desarrollo de las obras.

This month we will be featuring two playwrights selected from our Read & Rant lottery: Pamela Morgan and Laura Neill.

Pamela Morgan’s Glory to the Father:
What if you were given the chance to stage a scene from your life? To write and revise it before it ever happens? This is the opportunity that Rachel is offered in Glory to the Father, a meta-psychodrama about childhood trauma, overbearing religion and complicated family relationships. But as the scene unfolds, again and again, Rachel finds her characters refusing to do as they’re told and forcing her to process a history that she was never prepared for.

Laura Neill’s Lost and Found:
Annie lost her keys. Lex lost their sweatshirt. Winnie’s looking for her husband’s watch, Rob’s looking for someone to tell him he’s cool, and Nina’s just trying to keep herself from drinking. When these five “losers” band together to seek their missing possessions, they instead find each other. But each of them has lost something a lot worse than a set of keys. When the group’s secrets threaten to tear them apart, they can’t avoid sharing–and maybe beginning to heal from–their traumas.
