Leer y despotricar (20/7)

20 de julio de 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm MDT

Leer y despotricar

Read & Rant is Athena Project’s new book club exploring plays written primarily by women. Prior to the gathering, our audience is invited to read two or three scripts and meet every third Lunes to discuss the works. Learn what makes a good script; how reading a play is different than a book, a movie, or spoken word; converse with invited guests as part of our monthly discussions and share opinions. Our monthly free offerings to the community aim to raise awareness of the under-representation of women’s stories on stage.

*Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Read & Rant on Julio 20 will be held as a virtual meeting on Zoom. Participants who have registered will receive the link for the meet-up in a email prior to the event.

READ & RANTS of 2020, are every THIRD MONDAY from 6:30-8:30pm

Nombre(s) de la obra:

  1. Alice in Wonderland (1886 musical script) by Henry Savile Clarke
  2. Understanding Alice by Kimberly Reynolds

Facilitadores:

Jennie MacDonald
Susan Hennessy
Mikaley Osley

Invitados:

In addition, Athena Project will be in conversation with Regan Linton, Artistic Director of Phamaly Theatre Company, and other PTC members, discussing Phamaly’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and how we as human beings and social creatures are able to function in a society marked by dysfunction, chaos, illogic, and systematized/normalized bias.

Phamaly Theatre Company was scheduled to premiere a new adaptation of Alice in Wonderland this summer, written by David Jacobi with music by Wheelchair Sports Camp. Due to COVID-19, the production has been postponed to summer 2021. Phamaly is uniquely positioned to participate in this conversation as an arts organization whose mission is “to be a creative home for theatre artists with disabilities; to model a disability-affirmative theatrical process; and to upend conventional narratives by transforming individuals, audiences, and the world.” www.phamaly.org

CUESTIONES A CONSIDERAR:

  • In what ways does Alice respond to the residents of Wonderland and their activities?

  • Does Alice herself change through the events of the story?

  • The 1886 play was intended as a musical for children and sanctioned by Lewis Carroll. What does this version indicate about Victorian theatrical practices?

  • Why does Alice in Wonderland continue to hold such appeal more than 150 years later?

OBTENER LOS GUIONES:
