2023 Open Mic and Workshop

Athena Project presents its newest extension of the Girls Create program – Artfully Minded Open Mic Nights & Workshops for 6th – 10th grade girls* interested in learning and/or performing art forms such as spoken word, poetry, music, acting/monologues, playwriting, stand-up, and dance.

Join us on the 2nd Mondays monthly for an event that brings in professionals from the community to teach workshops and provide guidance during the creative process for various artistic disciplines. 

Each 50-minute workshop culminates in an open mic where students share their work, whether from that night’s workshop or other projects. Each open mic spot is for 5 minutes and there are 7 performance spots. We invite the community, including friends & family of the participants, to experience these performances. Event is free, although a suggested donation is welcome. Please register below!

All workshops are in person from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm at the Town Hall Collaborative on 525 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO, 80204.

This new program is part of Girls Create, which empowers girls to lead and effect change in themselves and others through creative learning. This program seeks to encourage girls to tap into their creativity, gain confidence, and do what they love in the arts.

September’s Workshop Teaching Artist

A New York and Puerto Rican Native, Kebrina Josefina De Jesus has been teaching youth and adults dance and theater for over two decades. She holds her Masters of Fine Arts in Theater and Contemporary Performance from Naropa University. Currently, Kebrina teaches, directs and choreographs for her company Samba Colorado​, the first Brazilian dance school & performance company in Colorado. In her spare time, she enjoys mermaiding with Rocky Mountain Mermaids, continues to study dance / theater and travels sharing her love of Brazilian dance, Salsa/Mambo, movement and theater-arts throughout the states and with all who are curious to learn.
