Read & Rant: A Plays in Progress Series
Read & Rant is Athena Project’s monthly book club exploring plays written primarily by women and underrepresented genders. We explore brand new works with playwrights in the room and we discuss what makes a good script, how it affects us, and how it links to the larger world.
Curating Art for Impact
Our unique Curating Art for Impact creates year-round opportunities for artists to design and/or perform works that are aligned with an organization’s brand and mission. These collaborations with or on behalf of community partners, provide unique experiential art such as pop-up performances that elevate and amplify their missions and pays artists
Creative Workshops
Centering feminism and gender empowerment, these creative workshops use art forms such as theatre, creative writing, fashion, visual arts, movement and comedy to nurture young people to build empathy for themselves and others while gaining mindfulness tools for resilience.
Donations in Action
I am so grateful to Athena Project for this opportunity! I was amazed by how much care and thougtful attention the team gave to my new play. The whole experience has given me the confidence and motivation to continue developing it.
It was such a pleasure working with Athena Project to bring live music to the closing of the farmers market! The event had a festive feel with a high vibe DJ, and it felt like an honor to close things out sharing my original song celebrating land stewardship and regenerative agricultural systems.

Become a Fempower Funder
Are you passionate about the arts and amplifying the voices all women and underrepresented genders to lead? Is #ArtMatters a rallying cry for you? You’ve come to the right place! After much planning and plotting we have created the FemPower Funders Collective, a focused group of dedicated champions who wish to further our mission of amplifying artists who are women or underrepresented genders and building community. Our FemPower Funders will support Athena Project to develop new plays by women and underrepresented genders, create more showcasing opportunities for visual artists, musicians, dancers, comedians, and fashion designers, and to educate girls and non-binary youth in various arts disciplines through our programs.
As a thank you for doing so, you’ll be a part of:
- 5 unique, specially curated artist-focused experiences (like exhibit tours, play readings, immersive interactions and talkbacks) where you get to connect with the artists in person, as well as your fellow Funders.
- A fabulous Funders’ Social, like a cocktail evening or brunch — the perfect chance to build relationships, with conversations over canapes or croissants!
- Our ground-breaking Read & Rant “book club for plays” program, diving into 2 brand new plays every month — with the playwrights in the room!
- Our unique Artful Reflections program — ‘let the art in’ using all your senses, at a woman-owned gallery to deepen your connection with yourself and your world.
Since 2012, supporters have made it possible for us to develop 120 new plays, produce 12 visual art shows, participate in 151 community collaborations, put on 430 performances, educate 284 summer camp students, and the list goes on……because of supporters like you, together we are already empowering women and underrepresented genders in the arts and we can’t wait to continue doing so!
Join us and commit to a tax deductible gift of $1200 annually. FemPower Funders have the flexibility to plan this giving monthly ($100/month or $300/quarter). You can stop at any time, with 30 days notice. OR, for a single $200 contribution, you’re invited to join us at 1 FemPower Funder event of your choice AND come along to the fabulous Funders’ Social!
Can we count on you to take this next step and join us in our “fempowerment” adventures?
If you are able to make a commitment of $1,200/year to support our organization or know someone who may be able to, please email Angela Astle, Founder and Executive Producer at [email protected].
